The San Diego Chargers begin their march toward a second consecutive AFC Championship game appearance this Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA. Last year's AFC West winner will be facing the Carolina Panthers at 4:15pm ET in a Fox televised contest. NFL Picks for on Week 1 Odds at Sportsbook.com are favoring the home team Chargers -9 to take out the Panthers. San Diego was a huge favorite to reach the Super Bowl entering the 2007 season. The Chargers, however, stumbled out of the gate losing three of their first four games before rebounding to finish at 11-5. San Diego returns 19 starters from last season, and they again are expected to be an elite team in the AFC. Quarterback Philip Rivers evolved into a team leader of the course of last season under the guidance of Head Coach Norv Turner. This year Rivers should have his best season yet as he commands an offense that posted 25.8 points per game in 2007. The Carolina Panthers would like to forget everything about last season, and at this point, they probably have. Their 7-9 finish was a result of injuries, poor quarterback play, and a huge drop off in the production of their defensive line. Thankfully for Panther fans, quarterback Jake Delhomme has returned healthy from elbow surgery to take over his role as team leader. Carolina experienced a great deal of roster tunrover in the off-season as six starters from 2007 are no longer with the team. However, thet had nine picks in this year's draft and also signed 11 players in free agency. Head Coach John Fox will get the opportunity to see if his message sinks in with a lot of fresh faces. Key Matchup: The Panthers offensive line will likely be a work in progress in the early portion of the season but they will need to find a way to hold up against the Chargers defensive front. San Diego produced 42 sacks last year and they will itching to get after Delhomme. NFL Week 1 Trend: The Under is 7-3 in Carolina's last 10 games as a road underdog. Sportsbook.com' NFL Week 1 Odds for the Panthers vs Chargers: Panthers +9 (-105), Over 41.5, +350 (Money line) Chargers -9 (-105), Under 41.5, -450 (Money line) Get on board for an entire season of NFL Picks; we are prepped and ready to storm through the 2008 NFL schedule. Despite winning just nine games, Tampa Bay won the NFC South last season to sneak into the NFL playoffs. The Bucs odds of that happening again are slim, as New Orleans and Carolina both look much-improved. BetOnline.com has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3) at New Orleans Saints (-3) for NFL Picks action on Sunday, September 7 at 1:00 PM EST. The Buccaneers made very few changes in the off-season, instead building through the draft. The defense certainly needed an injection of youth. First-round cornerback Aqib Talib is very talented and a trio of Talib, Ronde Barber and Phillip Buchanon is an intimidating one for quarterbacks. The offense remains almost exactly the same as a year ago. Jeff Garcia will again start at quarterback, though he was admittedly upset by the team’s flirtation with Green Bay in the off-season, as the Bucs apparently tried to acquire Brett Favre. Garcia has been underappreciated his entire career. He played very efficient football in 2007 and will have one new receiver to throw to this year in Antonio Bryant. Bryant’s young legs are a welcome addition, as primary target Joey Galloway is 37 years old. The Saints, on the other hand, made a few changes. The defense was shored up via the draft, trades and free agency. Linebacker Jon Vilma was acquired from the Jets. It’s debatable whether he’ll be the same after being injured, but there’s no question when he’s healthy he’s very active. He’ll be joined for first-round defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis. New Orleans added even more pop to its already explosive offense. Tight end Jeremy Shockey should add another dimension to the passing game, while last year’s top pick, Robert Meachem, looks poised for a breakout after a monster preseason. The offense could be lacking pop in the running game, however. Deuce McAllister will try to come back from a third knee surgery, but he’s got a lot of mileage on his body. Reggie Bush remains in the fold, but it’s tough not to label him a bust—the NFL odds of him actually running North-South for once aren’t good. He needs to have a big season if New Orleans wants to contend for the NFC title. Normally, I might like the Saints odds in this match-up, but the team has faced too many distractions in the wake of Hurricane Gustav. It hasn’t had the same impact as Katrina, but it could be a hindrance nonetheless.

College Football Picks… Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Ole Miss Rebels; Betting Line- Wake Forest -7 (Total 44 ½) Television- ABC; Kickoff 3:30 PM ET; Groves Stadium, Winston-Salem, N.C. (Betting lines provided by online sportsbook LooseLines.com). Oddsmakers at online sportsbook LooseLines.com has installed Wake Forest the favorite by a -7-point chalk and -300 money line with a 44 ½ total. Ole Miss backers are getting +250 money line odds as a road underdog. Wake Forest looks to follow up its successful road debut with a home contest against Ole Miss today in Winston-Salem. Quarterback Riley Skinner performed like a veteran in week-one at Baylor but will face a stiffer test going against the Rebels. He will be going against a faster defense featuring safety Jamarca Sanford and linebacker Ashlee Palmer. What has Ole Miss fans excited is the new offense with new wrinkles such as direct snaps to a back similar to what Nutt initiated at Arkansas with Darren McFadden in the backfield. The pick…This game could be close…Ole Miss +7. Checkout our live College Football Point Spreads showcasing real time odds of the world's top online sportsbooks all in one easy to use location. The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins kick off their NFL seasons with an old-fashioned AFC East slugfest. The Dolphins will play host to the Jets at 1:00pm ET on Sunday, September 7, at Dolphin Stadium in Florida. The game can be seen on CBS. NFL Week 1 odds at Sportsbook.com have the Jets as a -3 road favorite in this division contest. The Jets are coming off a disastrous 4-12 season, Head Coach Eric Mangini's second with the club, but they have reason for hope. The team traded for Brett Favre in the off season, and he has looked outstanding in his short time with the franchise. With Favre under center the Jets have an entirely different look on offense and they certainly have enough talent on that side of the ball to put some points on the scoreboard. The defense should be improved too with the additions of Kris Jenkins, Calvin Pace, and Vernon Ghoulston. As bad as the Jets 2007 season was, the Dolphins had it worse. They achieved new lows in futility last year as anything that could go wrong did go wrong. As a result Cam Cameron was fired at the season's end and Miami ownership brought in Bill Parcells to clean up the mess, not as coach, but as executive vice president of football operations. Parcells brought in Cowboys assistant coach Tony Sparano to lead the team and things appear to be headed in the right direction. There will be some growing pains, but Miami should show improve as the year progresses. Key Matchup: The Dolphins depleted defensive line must find a way to get some pressure on Favre. If they do not it will be a long day for Miami and they will become susceptible to Thomas Jones and the Jets ground attack as the game wears on. NFL Week 1 Trend: The Jets are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games at Miami. Sportsbook.com's NFL Week 1 Odds for the Jets vs Dolphins: New York Jets -3 (-115), Over 36 (-110), -160 (Money line) Miami Dolphins +3 (-105), Under 36 (-110), +140 (Money line) Get on board for an entire season of our NFL Picks; we are prepped and ready to storm through the 2008 NFL schedule.
