The Detroit Red Wings have been on a roll during this season's NHL playoff run, winning nine games in a row. Now, they will attempt to advance to the Stanley Cup finals with a win in Game 4 against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Wednesday. BetOnline.com has the Detroit Red Wings –165 odds favorites against the Dallas Stars +145 with the total set at 5 goals.
The Red Wings went into Game 3 without Johan Franzen, who leads the NHL in goals scored in the postseason. But Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg were still healthy, and they destroyed the Stars in a 5-2 win that was not even that close. Datsyuk notched the first hat trick of his career, which is a surprising statistic considering his production over his six-year career, especially the last three seasons. Linemate Zetterberg added a shorthanded goal in the third period which essentially closed the door on the Stars, while adding a pair of assists. Chris Osgood added 16 stops for the Red Wings.
The Stars outhit the Red Wings 47-20 in the contest, but their physical play did not seem to bother Detroit's experienced players at all. Nicklas Grossman and Brad Richards found the back of the net for the Stars, who got injury scares from captain Brenden Morrow and Mike Modano throughout the game. Both players returned to action, but one wonders if the Stars can be victorious with two of their leaders at less than 100%, as well as Jere Lehtinen, who missed Game 3 with a leg ailment. Marty Turco stopped 16 shots for the Stars as he continued his misery against the Red Wings.
The Red Wings have been the best team in the league for the entire season, even though a period late in the regular season which they seemed to get hit with various injuries. But as long as the line of Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom are healthy, the Red Wings will always have a chance. As for the Stars, they always put up a good fight, but they are nowhere as talented as the Red Wings, and that has come to the forefront in this series. Take the Red Wings to grab the sweep and await their competition in the finals with a victory on Wednesday. Get your Free NHL Playoff Pick in Now!
