The Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets meet in preseason action on Friday night on FOX television. The Vikings lost their preseason opener to the Rams while the Jets routed the Falcons. SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the Under 35. Minnesota Vikings at New York Jets Friday, 8:00 pm Eastern – FOX
The Jets #1 draft pick Darrelle Revis signed this week and should make his preseason debut. Revis signed a reported six-year, $36 million contract. Revis has missed a lot of practices and last week’s game but could play on Friday. "I don't think anything's out of the question," coach Eric Mangini said. "It's just really seeing where he is." "I'm excited to be in the NFL," Revis said. "It's a dream come true. I've been fighting for this job my whole life. Now it's here and I just have to take steps now, one step at a time, and do what I can." Not in action for the Jets on Friday will be running back Thomas Jones who strained his right calf in practice. Second-year running back Leon Washington will likely get the start. New York will also be playing Danny Ware, Alvin Banks and Tony Hollings at the running back position in Friday’s game.
The Vikings looked poor last week in the loss to the Rams, particularly the offense which scored just 3 points. The Vikings only TD was scored by linebacker Dontarrious Thomas on an interception return. "The most important thing to me now is we need to get the ball in the end zone," offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said. "We had some good drives. I think we had, maybe it was about a 12-play drive we put together, no three-and-outs with the first group, but I want to be able to finish those drives." QB Tarvaris Jackson played okay throwing for 83 yards on 8-for-11 passing and gaining 25 yards on two scrambles. Jackson will start and go a quarter followed by former Jets quarterback Brooks Bollinger, Drew Henson and Tyler Thigpen. "It's great to get a chance to see those guys again," said Bollinger, "I have a lot of respect for them as a football team. I know they'll be a good measure for us to go up against and compete against them because they are a very good football team and a very good defense." Minnesota #1 pick Adrian Peterson will look for more action this week. He had 33 yards on 11 carries in the opener. Other than Jackson and a few other veteran players, most of the first string offense and defense will play the first half for Minnesota. The Jets will go with quarterback Chad Pennington for about a quarter on Friday. He played two series in the team's preseason opener and handed off on every down. "It was definitely a different challenge for me, trying to get ready mentally and making sure that I was focused and into the game," Pennington said. "That was the hardest thing, knowing that I had to go in and hand the ball off." Backup Kellen Clemens threw all the time last week going 16-of-22 for 174 yards and three touchdowns. The Jets will go with Pennington for about a quarter on Friday followed by Clemens and Marques Tuiasosopo. The Jets are 4-1 in the all-time preseason series with the Vikings.
