Tonight the Forty-Niners and Bears square off at Soldier Field in Chicago. The game, which will be nationally televised on Fox, is the third pre-season game for each team. The Forty-Niners sit at 1-1 while Chicago is 0-2. NFL Betting odds at SBGglobal.com have the Bears as a -3.5 home favorite and the game total set at 36.5. Chicago fans are probably starting to get a little scared, granted, it is just the pre-season, but the Bears have looked miserable thus far. Last week in their 29-26 loss to the Seahawks, Chicago had just 205 yards of offense, nine penalties, and two turnovers. The Bear defense did not fair much better. They allowed 241 yards rushing and Seattle had a 5.4 yard per carry average for the game. On the bright side for the unit were the three interceptions and three sacks that they produced. Head Coach Lovie Smith will be looking for a little better performance out of his team this week as the starters are set to play most of the first half. He named quarterback Kyle Orton the starter for the season opener and is no doubt hoping to see some chemistry develop between the former Boilermaker and the receiving corps. Smith will also be keeping a careful eye on the ground game which totaled just 51 yards against Seattle. The Bears will see off-season acquisition Kevin Jones for the first time tonight. Jones is coming off of ACL surgery, but he could end up being the team's starting tailback in the regular season. San Francisco pulled a Jekyll and Hyde act in their first two pre-season outings. In their opener against the Raiders they looked dreadful in almost every respect. Particularly concerning for Head Coach Mike Nolan and his staff were the team's seven penalties and four turnovers. However, the team played outstanding last week in beating the Packers 34-6. They not only reduced the turnover numbers, they created three of their own. The Forty-Niner offense looked exceptional against Green Bay and the team has to be pleased with the play of quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan is 8 for 17 in the pre-season for 156 yards and a touchdown. Rookie Josh Morgan has also taken advantage of his opportunities in the first two games as well. Morgan has nine receptions for 182 yards and a touchdown in the pre-season, and looks like he will be the team's fourth wide receiver. NFL Preseason Game Trends: The Bears are 2-6 against the spread as a home favorite in the pre-season since 2003. The Forty-Niners have averaged 15.25 points per game in their third pre-season game 2004.
